Knockcronal Scoping Submission

We are pleased to have submitted a Scoping Request to the Scottish Government to progress our plans for Knockcronal Wind Farm, approximately 4km south of Straiton in South Ayrshire. The proposals are at an early stage and the Scoping Request to the Scottish Government seeks to continue our investigations and receive early feedback from the local community and consultees.

At this stage we think there is potential for up to 12 turbines up to 200m high to tip and with a capacity exceeding 50MW.  The proposal may reduce in scale as feedback is received from the local community, statutory consultees and as our environmental consultants progress their studies. Read the project summary.

We have a history of engaging with the community and despite face-to-face meetings not being possible at this time, we have confidence and experience that this can be done online.

We are following Scottish Government advice throughout all of our work in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic. We understand that there are more important matters due to the current health emergency but we are continuing, where possible, our daily working activity and continuing our investment plans, assisting the green recovery in Scotland.

The Knockcronal proposal is located on the site of the withdrawn Linfairn Wind Farm previously developed by WilloWind Energy Limited. WilloWind Energy Limited withdrew their application in July 2018 and has no involvement in this new scheme being developed by Statkraft.

We are enthusiastic about bringing meaningful benefits to local communities. We believe we are the only wind farm developer that has pledged to commission feasibility studies to assess the potential to bring improved access to broadband as part of our projects.

Despite this project being subsidy-free, we are committed to delivering £5,000 per MW installed in community benefit funding. In addition, we are committed to shared ownership, if there is interest in the local community to investigate further this opportunity.

We welcome the opportunity to speak with local residents and community groups by phone or video call at an appropriate time to outline our proposals in more detail, introduce some of the team and receive any early feedback.
