Project updates
These are the latest project updates for Richborough Greener Grid Park
Latest news
Statkraft has submitted a planning application to Dover District Council (Ref. 26/00159 ) for a new Greener Grid Park within the industrial area, south of Richborough Energy Park.
You can view the full planning application through Dover District Council's Planning Portal
Our Greener Grid Parks increase stability of the electricity grid and the amount of renewable energy being delivered onto the grid network.
One technology that is key to grid stability are large electrical machines with flywheels, called synchronous compensators. They can replace the spinning turbines of a traditional power station but without emitting any carbon dioxide.
More information about the importance of grid stability can be found here.
The National Energy System Operator (NESO) has identified a specific need for these services within the Richborough area. This proposal does not relate to a solar or battery project, but rather is essential infrastructure to support the nearby 400kV National Grid substation.
A similar type of project is our operational Lister Drive Greener Grid Park in Liverpool
We have submitted an Environmental Impact Assessment Scoping Request to Dover and Thanet District Councils to progress initial Greener Grid Park plans.
This is not a planning application, but is the earliest stage of the planning process to help inform the key studies that will be required to be undertaken and included in any future planning application.
