About Keith Greener Grid Park Extension

In 2020, Statkraft received planning consent for our Keith Greener Grid Park, which included two Synchronous Compensators and 20MW BESS. The Synchronous Compensators have been operational since 2022, successfully providing services to keep our electricity network stable and supporting local community initiatives through a community benefit fund. You can find out more about the fund by visiting www.grantscape.org.uk/fund/keith/.

We are now looking to develop the BESS and are reconnecting with the local community in advance of submitting a planning application in winter 2026/27.

You’re invited to come along to one of our drop-in public exhibitions:

Tuesday 3 November 3.30pm-7.30pm Longmore Community Hall, Banff Rd, AB55 5HA
Thursday 26 November 3.30pm-7.30pm Longmore Community Hall, Banff Rd, AB55 5HA
3 November - 26 November Online Online on this project website

This website will be kept updated as our plans progress.

Please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page if you have further questions, or get in touch with us to leave a comment or request a callback.

Why do we need Greener Grid Parks?

Project timeline

  • Stage 1: Site Selection

Extensive research to identify suitable sites. No public engagement is carried out during this time because the site may not pass the criteria required for being suitable for development.

  • Stage 2: Pre-Planning

We request the view of Moray Council on the level of study required. We contact local elected representatives and consultees.

  • Stage 3: Submit Planning Application, and Await Decision

An application is submitted to Moray Council, accompanied by a comprehensive Planning Report and Environmental Assessments showing the results of all studies undertaken.

  • Stage 4: Construction

If the project is approved, construction typically takes 18 months. Planning conditions are used to manage elements of construction.

  • Stage 5: Operation

The project is managed by a regionally based maintenance team, and operations are controlled by detailed planning conditions.
