Coylton Greener Grid Park latest construction updates
Scottish Water are due to commence connection works at the Coylton Greener Grid Park site on 9 March 2026. To complete these works temporary traffic measures including temporary traffic lights will be required. We expect the lights to be in place from 9 to 16 March to excavate the road crossing.
Large load transformer delivery expected 15/16 December.
The delivery of the transformer (a large piece of electrical equipment required for the project to connect to the electricity grid) is expected to take place on the night of 15 - 16 December 2025.
The transformer will arrive at Ayr Docks and have a police escort along the A77 towards Kilmarnock, down the A76 through Mauchline to Cumnock and then along the A70 through Ochiltree to the Coylton site.
This is the final very large delivery to site. As the site transitions from ground works to electrical works, the number of people working on site and amount of traffic on local roads will continue to reduce.
Delivery of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) units for the Coylton Greener Grid Park will begin on April 9, 2025 and is expected to last for approximately a month.
The Batteries will come through Glasgow, down the M77 to Kilmarnock, down the A76 to Cumnock and then along the A70 through Ochiltree to site. We expect between 4-5 lorries to deliver to site per day.

Construction will stop from the 20 December and recommence on 6th January 2025.
Statkraft has commenced construction at Coylton Greener Grid Park.
In April 2024 our planning application for Coylton Greener Grid Park was consented by the East Ayrshire Council.
There were no consultee objections and no local representations against the application. It is a welcome milestone to start construction on the project.
The project will provide an essential service to stabilise the power grid and allow more renewable energy to be transmitted through the network, without relying on fossil fuelled power stations. This means fewer harmful emissions, and lower bills for consumers, because renewable energy is cheaper.
Coylton Greener Grid Park will be located next to the Coylton electricity substation off of the Ayr Road (A70) and will take around 18 months to build.
